Does ethnicity affect chances of university acceptance?

Somebody told me I would have less of a chance getting into a good US university if I were White lol. Does ethnicity really change anybody's chances to get into Stanford for example? Btw I'm NOT White, I'm Indian/Pakistani but born and have always lived in England, so Brit-Asian :)
