What are the statistic of surviving a plane crash?

I can't help but notice that when someone says, "I hate to fly or Flying makes me nervous" Someone inevitable says, "Your more likely to get in a car crash then a plane crash" Well I say, "It's not the crash the scares me it's the horrible death the happens from it thats makes me think twice" It seems to me the you are far more likely to die a horrible death in a less likely plane crash then a less horrible death in a more likely car crash. But no one ever gives the states for that, so I'm wondering just what are those stat's?
