Why is Detroit scared to pick No. 1 Overall?

It worked out great for ATL, but that's the exception to the rule it seems. For every Matt Ryan or Eli Manning, there's a David Carr or Alex Smith. Picking a QB at #1 is a roll of the dice & with how much money you have to pay #1 picks, it's a cap killer, especially if it doesn't work out. They need so much, but paying a rookie QB a fortune will give them less to spend on other talent. Did you know Matt Ryan actually made more than Tom Brady last year? It will probably be put in the next CBA to have a rookie salary scale like in the NBA. The Rams are trying to trade their #2 pick too.
