Is it ethical for Thomas Friedman to be hanging out with Democrats so much?

This guy's column in the NY Times is read by tons of people and he's supposed to be a respected journalist, yet he plays golf with Obama and has breakfast with John Kerry. How can someone that writes political columns be trusted to be fair and honest in his judgement if he is doing these things? Doesn't this seem like a conflict of interest?
